1988-89 Fleer #24 Larry Nance

About Larry Nance
Larry Nance came out of Clemson as the 20th pick of the 1981 draft and turned Phoenix Suns games into launch events, winning the NBA's inaugural Slam Dunk Contest in 1984 — the leaping display that earned him the nickname "The High-Ayatolla of Slamola." The 6'10" power forward gave the league 13 seasons split between Phoenix (1981-88) and Cleveland (1988-94), and Fleer's 1988-89 issue catches him just after the February 1988 blockbuster trade that made him the frontcourt anchor beside Brad Daugherty on the best Cavaliers teams of the era. A three-time All-Star (1985, 1989, 1993), Nance earned All-Defensive First Team honors in 1988-89 plus Second Team nods in 1992 and 1993, retiring with 15,687 points, 7,067 rebounds, and 2,027 blocks — rare rim protection from a power forward. Not a rookie card, but a cornerstone Cavalier in the set, and Cleveland later retired his No. 22.
