1988-89 Fleer #78 Roy Hinson

About Roy Hinson
A Trenton, New Jersey product who starred at nearby Rutgers and shared Atlantic 10 Player of the Year honors in 1983, Roy Hinson went 20th overall to Cleveland in that summer's draft. The 6'9" forward blossomed quickly, swatting over two shots a game in 1984-85 and peaking at 19.6 points in 1985-86 — form that made him the centerpiece of a famous deal, when the Cavaliers sent him to Philadelphia for the No. 1 pick that became Brad Daugherty. He even threw down in the 1986 Slam Dunk Contest. Traded home to the Nets midway through 1987-88, the Garden State native suited up for all 82 games in 1988-89, averaging 16.0 points — the season this card fronts. Over eight NBA seasons (1983-91) with Cleveland, Philadelphia, and New Jersey, Hinson logged 507 games, 7,206 points, and 882 blocks. Not a rookie card, but a fitting Jersey-guy-on-the-Jersey-team snapshot.
