About John Bagley

A Bridgeport, Connecticut playmaker, John "Bags" Bagley — the nickname a simple shortening of his surname — starred at Boston College, becoming the first Eagle named Big East Player of the Year in 1981 and leaving after his junior season as a two-time first-team All-Big East pick (BC later retired his No. 54). Cleveland grabbed the 6-0 point guard 12th overall in the 1982 draft, and he ran the Cavs' offense for five seasons, peaking at 9.4 assists per game in 1985-86. Traded to New Jersey in 1987, he was the only Net to appear in all 82 games in 1987-88, posting a career-best 12.0 points — and hitting a 75-footer at the quarter buzzer against Houston that November. This card catches his second Nets season, when Lester Conner took over the starting job. Not a rookie card — Bagley was a six-year veteran by 1988-89. Later a Celtic and briefly a Hawk, he retired with 5,802 points and 3,980 assists across 665 games.
