About Sleepy Floyd

Eric "Sleepy" Floyd — tagged in fourth grade when a baseball spectator hollered that the kid in the field was sleeping — starred four years at Georgetown, setting the Hoyas' career scoring record of 2,304 points and taking the 1982 title game to the wire alongside freshman Patrick Ewing. The Nets drafted him 13th overall in 1982, but the point guard blossomed after a trade to Golden State, earning his lone All-Star nod in 1986-87 (18.8 points, 10.3 assists) and authoring an untouchable playoff line: 29 points in a quarter and 39 in a half — still NBA postseason records — during a 51-point Game 4 against the Lakers. Dealt to Houston in December 1987 in the Ralph Sampson swap, he steadied the Rockets' backcourt into 1993, the uniform shown here. Card #51 catches him six seasons in — no rookie cachet — before stops in San Antonio and New Jersey closed a 13-year run with 12,260 points and 5,175 assists.
