About Ed Walsh
Born 1881 in Plains, PA (d. 1959), Ed Walsh was a right-handed pitcher who debuted in 1904 and played 14 major-league seasons. He went 195-126 with a 1.82 ERA and 1,736 strikeouts across 430 appearances. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1946. His career ERA of 1.82 is the lowest in major league history, and his 40 wins for the 1908 White Sox make him the last pitcher ever to reach 40 victories in a single season.
