About Hughie Jennings
Born 1869 in Pittston, PA (d. 1928), Hughie Jennings was a right-handed shortstop who debuted in 1891 and played 17 major-league seasons. He batted .311 with 1,527 hits, 18 home runs, and 359 stolen bases in 1,285 games. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1945. He was hit by pitches a record 287 times in his career, including a single-season record 51 times in 1896 that still stands.
