About Jimmy Jackson
James Benner Jackson, a right-handed outfielder from Philadelphia who attended the University of Pennsylvania, reached the majors on April 26, 1901 with the Baltimore Orioles in the American League's inaugural season, where he led AL outfielders with a .971 fielding percentage. He moved to John McGraw's New York Giants in 1902 and later played for the Cleveland Naps in 1905-1906, making his final big-league appearance on September 28, 1906. Over 348 major-league games he batted .235 with 300 hits in 1,274 at-bats, 159 runs and 132 RBIs. After 1906 Jackson returned to the minors for roughly a decade, and it was his stint with the Baltimore Orioles of the Class-A Eastern League that his T206 card depicts — one of the set's many minor-league "Eastern League" subjects rather than a major-leaguer at the time of issue. He went on to manage a string of minor-league clubs (Lima, Wilmington, Topeka, Wichita, Colorado Springs and Elmira) into the late 1910s. He died in Philadelphia in 1955. Not a Hall of Famer, he is a common but genuine deadball-era figure in the T206 checklist.
