About Peter Cassidy
Peter Francis "Pete" Cassidy (April 8, 1873 - July 9, 1929) was a right-handed corner infielder from Wilmington, Delaware, who reached the majors during the 1890s before settling into a long minor-league career. A first baseman who also filled in at shortstop and third, he broke into the National League with the Louisville Colonels in 1896, then returned in 1899 with the Brooklyn Superbas and Washington Senators. Across those two big-league seasons he appeared in 101 games, collecting 98 hits with a .257 batting average, 3 home runs, and 48 RBIs, playing his final major-league game on June 22, 1899. Cassidy spent the rest of his career in the minors, and it was as a member of Baltimore in the Eastern League that he earned his place in the 1909-1911 T206 set. As a career minor-leaguer with only a brief big-league résumé, he ranks among the set's obscure, minor-league subjects rather than its star cards.
