About Ray Kremer
Ray Kremer broke into pro ball in 1914 with the Sacramento Wolves and spent a decade in the Pacific Coast League, starring for the Oakland Oaks, before Pittsburgh Pirates owner Barney Dreyfuss signed him in December 1923. Kremer debuted with the Pirates in 1924 at age 29 and immediately became the staff ace, going 18-10 as a rookie and following with 17-8, 20-6, and 19-8 seasons; he led the National League in ERA in both 1926 and 1927, and shared the league lead in wins in 1926 and again in 1930 with 20 victories at age 37. His signature moment came in the 1925 World Series against Washington, where he won Game Six with a complete-game six-hitter and returned in relief to win Game Seven, helping deliver Pittsburgh's championship. Known as "The Wiz," he retired in 1933 with a 143-85 record, a 3.76 ERA, and 516 strikeouts over ten major-league seasons, then worked as a Bay Area postal carrier until his death in 1965.
