About Joe Stripp
Joseph Valentine Stripp came up with the Cincinnati Reds on July 2, 1928, and developed into a steady-hitting infielder, batting .300 or better six times across an 11-year career — a personal-best .324 with the Reds in 1931. He moved to the Brooklyn Dodgers for the 1932 season and held down the club's infield through 1937, the very stretch captured on his card #46 in the 1934 Goudey set, recognized in the hobby as his rookie card. Stripp closed out his playing days in 1938 with the St. Louis Cardinals and Boston Bees, finishing with a .294 average, 1,238 hits, and a reliable .972 fielding percentage over 1,146 games. He died in Orlando, Florida, in 1989 at age 86.
