Born 1923 in Germantown, IL, Al Schoendienst was a switch-hitting second baseman who debuted in 1945 and played 19 major-league seasons. He batted .289 with 2,449 hits, 84 home runs, 773 RBI, and 89 stolen bases over 2,216 games. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame.
