About Ed Franco

Ed Franco earned football immortality as a member of Fordham's “Seven Blocks of Granite,” the fabled mid-1930s line that also included a young Vince Lombardi. A tackle out of Jersey City's Dickinson High, Franco anchored Ram fronts that went 12-1-3 across 1936 and 1937, posted eight shutouts, and held opponents under three points a game; the 1937 team went unbeaten and finished third in the nation. First-team All-America in 1936, he was a consensus All-American in 1937, one of only two Fordham players ever so honored. Franco later coached the Fordham line for six seasons, helping build the Rams' Cotton Bowl and Sugar Bowl teams, returned to the field with the NFL's Boston Yanks in 1944, and scouted for Lombardi with the Green Bay Packers and Washington Redskins. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1980.
