1955 Topps All-American #57 Vic Hanson

About Vic Hanson
Grantland Rice called Vic Hanson “the best all-around athlete Syracuse ever had,” and the record backs him up: in the mid-1920s Hanson captained the football, basketball, and baseball teams on the hill. At end he called the offensive signals and keyed Syracuse elevens that went 23-5-3 from 1924 to 1926, earning consensus All-America honors in 1926. On the hardwood he was a three-time All-American and the Helms Foundation national player of the year in 1927. After brief professional turns with basketball's Cleveland Rosenblums and a season in the New York Yankees' farm system, Hanson came home to coach Syracuse football from 1930 through 1936, going 33-21-5. He remains the only man enshrined in both the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, which inducted him in 1960, and the College Football Hall of Fame, which added him in 1973.
