About Bob Henrich

Bobby Henrich spent most of 1958 with Savannah of the South Atlantic League, playing third base, after the end of the bonus rule allowed Cincinnati to option him. The Redlegs recalled him in September and again used him mostly to pinch-run. His 1958 Topps card #131 is a rookie card, in the second series, with the Cincinnati Reds.

Bobby Henrich was a shortstop born in Lawrence, Kansas, and a distant relative of Yankees star Tommy Henrich. At Compton High School in California he was a fast center fielder who hit .482 in four years of Legion ball and .484 in high school, and he ran the 100-yard dash in 9.7 seconds. The Cincinnati Redlegs signed his father as a scout and then signed Bobby as a bonus baby for an estimated $30,000. At 18 he reached the majors in 1957, used mostly as a pinch runner, and he played parts of three seasons for Cincinnati through 1959, batting .125 in 48 games. Between call-ups he played at Savannah and in the Pacific Coast League, and he also played winter ball in Panama. He left baseball after the 1960 season, at 22, and went into the insurance business in Brea, California.
