1958 Topps #370 Yogi Berra

About Yogi Berra
Lawrence Peter "Yogi" Berra (1925-2015) grew up in St. Louis, the son of Italian immigrants; a boyhood friend nicknamed him "Yogi" after deciding he resembled a Hindu holy man he had seen in a movie. He signed with the Yankees and, after serving in the Navy during World War II, including at the D-Day landings, debuted in 1946. A durable catcher and feared clutch hitter, Berra was named AL MVP three times (1951, 1954, 1955) and selected to 18 All-Star Games. He anchored the Yankees dynasty and won ten World Series championships as a player, more than anyone in major league history, and caught Don Larsen's perfect game in the 1956 Series. Berra retired with 358 home runs and 2,150 hits, later managing pennant winners in both leagues. Famous for his malapropisms, such as "It ain't over till it's over," he was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1972.
