1959 Topps #439 Brooks Robinson

About Brooks Robinson
Brooks Robinson signed with the Baltimore Orioles and debuted in the majors on September 17, 1955, at age 18, going on to spend his entire 23-year career (1955-1977) at third base for Baltimore. Nicknamed the "Human Vacuum Cleaner" and "Mr. Impossible" for his extraordinary defense, he won a record 16 consecutive Gold Gloves, was named to 18 All-Star teams, and captured the 1964 AL MVP. He won two World Series with the Orioles, taking home 1970 World Series MVP honors after a defensive clinic against the Reds that cemented his legend. Robinson finished with 2,848 hits and 268 home runs, and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1983 on the first ballot. His 1959 Topps card (#439) shows him early in his career, three seasons before he became a full-time regular.
