About Ford Frick
Ford Christopher Frick (born December 19, 1894) began as a Colorado high school English teacher and sportswriter before joining the New York American in 1922, covering the Yankees through 1934 and ghostwriting Babe Ruth's Own Book of Baseball (1928). He served as National League public relations director, then NL President from 1934 to 1951, helping stabilize Depression-era franchises and playing a central role in founding the National Baseball Hall of Fame, which opened in Cooperstown in 1939. As MLB Commissioner from 1951 to 1965, Frick warned St. Louis Cardinals players against a threatened strike over Jackie Robinson's 1947 debut, telling them they were "through" if they carried it out, and he oversaw the majors' expansion from eight to ten teams per league. The Veterans Committee elected him to the Hall of Fame in 1970 as an executive; the annual Ford C. Frick Award for broadcasters, established in 1978, bears his name. He died in 1978.

Venezuelan Parallel
Topps issued a partial parallel of the set for the Venezuelan market, printed on thinner card stock and credited "Impreso en Venezuela por Benco C.A." on the back. Hobby checklists most often list the run as cards 1-196, though sources disagree and the exact range has never been definitively documented. Venezuelan cards are far scarcer than their U.S. counterparts and usually surface with heavy wear; collectors treat them as a separate parallel, not part of the standard 572-card set.
