About Felipe Alou

The 1962 set catches Alou after a 1961 season in which new Giants manager Al Dark finally played him most of the time: 415 at-bats, a .289 average, 18 home runs, 52 RBI and 120 hits across 132 games. His card #133 is a second-series number, and it comes in two collectible states: 133a without the green tint and 133b with it, the green cast that turned up on part of that series.

Felipe Rojas Alou was born May 12, 1935, in Haina, Dominican Republic, and signed with the New York Giants in November 1955 for $200. He debuted with San Francisco on June 8, 1958, the second Dominican-born player to reach the majors after Ozzie Virgil, and played seventeen seasons (1958-1974) as an outfielder and first baseman for the Giants, Braves, Athletics, Yankees, Expos and Brewers. He batted .286 with 2,101 hits, 206 home runs and 852 RBI, made three All-Star teams (1962, 1966, 1968) and led the National League in hits twice and in runs once. He, Matty and Jesus Alou are the only three brothers to play the same major-league outfield, and his son Moises Alou followed him to the majors. Alou later became the first Dominican-born manager in big-league history, guiding the Montreal Expos from 1992 to 2001 and the San Francisco Giants from 2003 to 2006, finishing 1,033-1,021. He is in the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame (2015) and the Caribbean Baseball Hall of Fame (2016), not Cooperstown.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Where a grader registers a variation separately its population is listed under that variation. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
