1962 Topps #454 Floyd Robinson

About Floyd Robinson
Card #454 in the 1962 Topps set is Floyd Robinson's rookie card, a series-6 issue whose back reports the season that made him a regular: .310 with 134 hits, 11 home runs and 59 RBI across 132 games in 1961, his first full year in the White Sox outfield. The writers left him in a three-way tie for third in that year's American League Rookie of the Year vote, behind Boston pitcher Don Schwall and Kansas City shortstop Dick Howser and level with Chuck Schilling and Lee Thomas.
Floyd Robinson, a left-handed-hitting outfielder, signed with the Pacific Coast League's San Diego Padres out of San Diego High School in 1954 for a reported $500 bonus. After two years in the Marine Corps he was discharged in March 1960, and the Chicago White Sox took him through their San Diego working agreement; he debuted that August 10. Robinson spent seven seasons in Chicago, hit over .300 three times and tied for third in the 1961 American League Rookie of the Year vote. His best came in 1962: a .312 average, 109 RBI and a league-leading 45 doubles. Chicago traded him to Cincinnati for Jim O'Toole in December 1966; Oakland got him the following November, and Boston bought his contract in July 1968, his final season. He retired at .283 with 929 hits and 67 home runs in nine years, then ran a liquor store, built low-income senior housing and started the Floyd Robinson Foundation in 2007 to fund college grants for San Diego County graduates. San Diego's Breitbard Hall of Fame inducted him in 2009.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
