About Jim Duffalo
Card #578 lands Duffalo in the seventh and final series of the 1962 Topps set, the high numbers running from #523 to #598, and it is his recognized rookie card. The back carries a known error: it prints his birth year as 1936, when he was born in 1935. He is pictured with the San Francisco Giants, who took the National League pennant that fall, and he worked 24 games for them in 1962 - 22 in relief plus two starts - going 1-2 with a 3.64 ERA, 29 strikeouts and 23 walks across 42 innings.
James Francis Duffalo was born November 25, 1935 in Helvetia, Pennsylvania, and pitched all or part of five major league seasons, 1961 through 1965, most of them with the San Francisco Giants. A right-hander used chiefly in relief, he entered the Pittsburgh Pirates' farm system in 1955, won 17 games as a rookie in the Class D Georgia-Florida League and 16 more the next year in the Class B Carolina League before the Pirates sent him to the Giants during the 1958 season. He debuted on April 12, 1961 at age 25, entering with two on and two out in the ninth and retiring Roberto Clemente to save a 2-1 win over Pittsburgh. He was a member of the 1962 National League champion Giants but did not appear in that year's World Series, and he closed out his big league time with Cincinnati in 1965. Duffalo finished 15-8 with six saves, 210 strikeouts and a 3.39 ERA in 141 games, 119 of them for San Francisco, starting 14 and relieving in 127. He pitched seven more minor league seasons before retiring in 1972 and briefly coached in the Giants' farm system.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
