About Johnny Orsino

Orsino's rookie card is 1962 Topps #377, a fifth-series card picturing him with the San Francisco Giants. Behind it is the debut summer of 1961: called up on July 14, he got into 25 games, started 22 of them behind the plate, and hit .277 with four home runs and 12 RBIs in 83 at-bats. The debut itself was a rough one against Pittsburgh, an 0-for-3 with an error and a passed ball, but he singled off Harvey Haddix the next afternoon for his first big league hit.

John Joseph Orsino (April 22, 1938 - November 1, 2016) was a 6-foot-3, 215-pound right-handed catcher, born in Teaneck, New Jersey and raised in nearby Fort Lee, where he played ball at Fort Lee High School. The New York Giants signed him as an amateur free agent in 1957, and he climbed the farm system, hitting .296 with 21 home runs for Double-A Rio Grande Valley in 1960. He reached the San Francisco Giants on July 14, 1961, then lost much of 1962 to Army duty he was called into after the Berlin crisis, getting back in time for a single at-bat in a World Series the Yankees took from the Giants in seven games. Traded to Baltimore that December, Orsino had his finest season in 1963, then fought a broken hand, a weakening throwing arm and finally an elbow that would not heal after a 1965 trade to Washington. He left the majors with 252 hits, 40 home runs and 123 RBIs and a .249 average in 332 games, and played his last professional season in the minors in 1969. He later coached baseball at Fairleigh Dickinson University, managed in the Cleveland farm system, and coached Florida Atlantic University's men's golf team.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
