The story on this card
Card #242 in the 1963 Topps set pairs Ernie Banks and Hank Aaron under the title Power Plus, printed in the set's third series and representing the Cubs and Braves together on one card. The title reflects each man's 1962 home run production: Banks, in his first full season at first base for Chicago, hit 37 home runs with 104 RBI and a .269 average over 154 games, while Aaron hit 45 home runs with 128 RBI and a .323 average over 156 games for Milwaukee.
Ernie Banks, called Mr. Cub, was the Chicago shortstop and first baseman who won back-to-back NL MVP awards in 1958-59 and hit 512 home runs despite the Cubs never reaching the postseason in his career. Hank Aaron was the Braves' right fielder and one of the greatest hitters in history, a 25-time All-Star who broke Babe Ruth's home run record in 1974 on his way to 755 career homers.
