1964 Topps #351 Dan Schneider

About Dan Schneider
The Braves kept Schneider in Milwaukee for 1964 but used him differently: 13 appearances, five of them starts, which together with the three he made as a rookie account for every start of his major league career. The results turned with the role. He finished 1-2 with a 5.45 ERA over 36 1/3 innings and gave up six home runs after allowing only two the year before. His 1964 Topps card is number 351, a solo card with the Milwaukee Braves from the fourth print series. His rookie card came a year earlier.
Daniel Louis Schneider, a left-handed pitcher, was born August 29, 1942, in Evansville, Indiana, and was raised in Tucson, Arizona, where he was an All-City and All-State player at Rincon High School, class of 1960. At the University of Arizona he was named a first-team All-American in 1962, and the Milwaukee Braves signed him that June. He reached the majors in May 1963 and pitched for the Braves in 1963, 1964 and 1966, then closed his big-league career with the Houston Astros, his last appearance coming in April 1969. Across five major league seasons he went 2-5 with a 4.71 ERA and 86 strikeouts in 117 games, only eight of them starts. His full professional career, minor league seasons included, ran from 1962 through 1970. He settled back in Tucson as chief financial officer of an insurance and financial services firm, coached and administered youth baseball, and in 1991 headed the community group that brought the Colorado Rockies to town for spring training after the Cleveland Indians pulled out. He entered the Pima County Sports Hall of Fame in 1996 and the University of Arizona Sports Hall of Fame in 2019.
