About this card

Cards #1-12 are the League Leaders subset that opens the set: twelve cards recapping the 1963 leaders in six categories (E.R.A., pitching, strikeouts, batting, home runs and R.B.I.), the National League card first and the American League card second in each pair.

The story on this card

Card 11 in Topps' 1964 set is a League Leaders board recapping the 1963 National League RBI race. Hank Aaron led the league with 130 runs batted in for the Milwaukee Braves, edging St. Louis Cardinals teammates Ken Boyer (111) and Bill White (109). Aaron nearly won the triple crown that year, also topping the NL in home runs with 44. White's 1963 season brought career-high totals in hits, runs scored, and home runs. Boyer's 111 RBI came the year before his MVP season with the pennant-winning Cardinals. This is a series-one card.

Hank Aaron was the Braves' right fielder and one of the greatest hitters in history, a 25-time All-Star who broke Babe Ruth's home run record in 1974 on his way to 755 career homers. Ken Boyer spent 11 seasons as the Cardinals' third baseman, a seven-time All-Star, five-time Gold Glover and 1964 National League MVP who hit a World Series grand slam; he later managed the club and is not in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Bill White - Slick-fielding, left-handed first baseman: seven straight Gold Gloves, eight-time All-Star, a 1964 World Series ring with St. Louis, then 18 years in the Yankees booth and a run as the first Black president of a major sports league.
