The story on this card
Howard's rookie card arrived in 1964 Topps as card #107, a multi-player Rookie Stars issue from the set's first series shared with fellow White Sox prospect Frank Kreutzer. The card introduced Howard following his September 1963 debut. In 1964 he made just three appearances for Chicago, all starts, but pitched effectively, going 2-1 with a 0.81 ERA over 22.1 innings, including a complete-game shutout. Bruce Howard was a right-handed pitcher who spent six seasons, 1963-1968, with the White Sox, Orioles and Senators, posting a 26-31 record and 3.18 ERA before his son David also reached the majors.
Kreutzer split 1964 between the White Sox and Senators, going to Washington in late July as the player to be named later in the trade that brought Bill Skowron to Chicago for Joe Cunningham. His 1964 Topps card is a Rookie Stars issue shared with fellow White Sox pitching prospect Bruce Howard, part of the set's first print series, and is regarded as his rookie card. Buffalo-born left-hander who pitched for the White Sox and Senators; his lone career shutout, in 1965 against Detroit, came with a two-run homer of his own.
