1965 Topps #219 Bob Meyer

About Bob Meyer
Card #219 pictures Meyer alone in a Kansas City Athletics uniform, part of 1965 Topps series 3 print run, issued after a rookie season in which the left-hander pitched for three American League clubs, the Yankees, the Angels and the Athletics, all in 1964. His rookie card had come the year before with the Yankees, in the multi-player Rookie Stars series, before his move to Kansas City.
Robert Bernard Meyer, a left-handed pitcher out of Toledo, Ohio, signed with the New York Yankees as an amateur free agent in 1960 and spent parts of three big-league seasons in the American League with the Yankees, Los Angeles Angels, Kansas City Athletics, Seattle Pilots and Milwaukee Brewers. His first major league strikeout victim was future Hall of Famer Carl Yastrzemski. Pitching for Kansas City in 1964, Meyer and Baltimore's Frank Bertaina each threw complete-game one-hitters on September 12, though the Athletics lost 1-0 on a Jackie Brandt sacrifice fly. He also beat Kansas City with six scoreless innings that June and outdueled Baltimore with a six-hit complete game that September, and in 1969 he pitched the first nine innings, allowing one unearned run, in a 13-inning win over the Yankees. Meyer finished his career with two wins and 92 strikeouts over 129.1 innings.
