The story on this card
Don Loun's 1965 Topps card, #181, is a Washington Senators Rookie Stars panel he shares with Joe McCabe, drawn from the set's third series -- his recognized rookie card. It followed his brief 1964 debut, when he threw a complete-game shutout in his first major league start against the Red Sox before making one more appearance for the club that October, closing his career at 1-1 with a 2.08 ERA over those two games. A left-hander who threw a complete-game shutout in his big league debut for the Senators, then made just one more major league start before finishing out his career in the minors.
Traded to the expansion Washington Senators over the winter, McCabe played his final big-league season there in 1965, catching in 11 of his 14 games before his last game on May 22. Card #181 is a Rookie Stars card shared with fellow Senators prospect Don Loun. It closed out a short two-year major league career that began the year before with the Twins. Purdue-bred catcher who set a Pacific Coast League hitting-streak record in the minors before a brief big-league stop, then flew commercial airliners for decades afterward.
