About Wayne Schurr

Schurr did not pitch in the majors in 1965, having worked his 26 games for the Cubs the year before. His 1965 Topps #149 comes from the set's second series and pictures him with the Chicago Cubs. His rookie card is the 1964 Topps Rookie Stars issue.

Wayne Allen Schurr, a 6-foot-4 right-hander, was born August 6, 1937, in Garrett, Indiana, and attended Hillsdale College in Michigan. He signed with the San Francisco Giants as an amateur free agent in 1959, and the Chicago Cubs took him in the 1963 Rule 5 draft. He spent the first three months of 1964 in the majors, debuting April 15 and pitching in 26 games, all in relief, with a 3.72 ERA and 29 strikeouts in 48.1 innings, and no decision or save. His last big league game came July 11, 1964. Schurr retired after the 1966 minor-league season. He was never an All-Star, won no major awards, and is not a Hall of Famer.
