The story on this card

Topps #6 is a League Leaders card from the set's first print series, recapping the 1964 National League RBI race. Ken Boyer topped the league with 119 runs batted in for the pennant-winning Cardinals, batting .295 with 24 home runs in the season that also earned him NL MVP honors. Ron Santo followed at 114 RBI for the Cubs, hitting .312 with 30 home runs while anchoring the hot corner. Willie Mays rounded out the trio with 111 RBI for the Giants, adding 47 home runs and a .296 average. All three men are pictured together, each identified with his club, capturing the National League's top run producers of the season.

Ken Boyer spent 11 seasons as the Cardinals' third baseman, a seven-time All-Star, five-time Gold Glover and 1964 National League MVP who hit a World Series grand slam; he later managed the club and is not in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Ron Santo played third base for the Chicago Cubs through the 1960s, a nine-time All-Star and five-time Gold Glove winner who hid his diabetes for years, later called Cubs games on the radio, and reached the Hall of Fame in 2012. Willie Mays was the Say Hey Kid, the five-tool center fielder of the New York and San Francisco Giants: Rookie of the Year in 1951, Most Valuable Player in 1954 and 1965, twelve straight Gold Gloves, 660 home runs, Hall of Fame in 1979.
