The story on this card
Card #392, part of series 5, is a multi-player Rookie Stars issue Hands shares with fellow Cub Randy Hundley, the catcher who came over with him in the offseason trade from San Francisco. It was Hands' first season with Chicago after that deal, and he worked as a swingman, making 26 starts and 15 relief outings while going 8-13 with a 4.58 ERA over 159 innings. A durable Cubs right-hander of the late 1960s, teamed in the rotation with Ferguson Jenkins and best remembered for his 20-win, 300-inning season in 1969.
In 1966, his first full season, Hundley caught 149 games for the Cubs, a rookie record at the position, and hit 19 home runs while batting .236. His 1966 Topps card, number 392, is a Rookie Stars issue from the fifth print series shared with fellow newcomer Bill Hands, and is recognized as Hundley's rookie card. Gold Glove catcher who anchored the Chicago Cubs for a decade, known for his durability behind the plate and a one-handed catching style other catchers soon copied.
