About Frank Quilici

Quilici's rookie card catches him away from the majors entirely. He was optioned to Triple-A Denver just before Opening Day 1966 and spent the whole season there while Bernie Allen and Cesar Tovar shared second base for the Twins, a comedown from his prominent role in the 1965 World Series the previous October. Card #207, in Topps' third series, pictures him with the Twins.

Frank Quilici spent his entire major league career with the Minnesota Twins, breaking in as an infielder in July 1965 after batting .277 for the Triple-A Denver Bears. He started all seven games of the 1965 World Series at second base and tied a Series record with two hits in one inning during a six-run rally against Don Drysdale in Game One. Quilici played second, third and shortstop for Minnesota through 1970, reaching a career-high .245 average in 1968 after Twins coach Billy Martin suggested he bring his hands in closer on his swing; that same season he also hit his first major league home run, a solo shot on the year's final day. He finished with a .214 average, five home runs and 53 RBI over 405 games. Quilici later coached for the Twins and, in July 1972 at age 33, became the youngest manager in the majors, guiding Minnesota to three straight third-place finishes before his 1975 firing. He went on to broadcast Twins games for several more seasons.

Where SGC registers no separate row for a variation state, its slabs of that card are listed under the base state.
