About Jim Dickson

Dickson's 1966 Topps card, #201, in print series three, shows him with the Kansas City Athletics for what proved his final major league season. He appeared in 24 games with a 5.35 ERA and made his only career start on July 24 against the Washington Senators, staking a 4-0 lead before surrendering four fourth-inning runs, including a home run by former teammate Ken Harrelson; he was sent to Triple-A soon after.

James Edward Dickson, a left-handed-hitting, right-handed relief pitcher out of Portland, Oregon, spent four seasons in the majors from 1963 to 1966 with the Houston Colt .45s, Cincinnati Reds and Kansas City Athletics. Drafted by the expansion Colt .45s after a ten-win season in the Class B Three-I League, he debuted in July 1963 and picked up his first career save that same month. Traded to Cincinnati for veteran infielder Eddie Kasko in January 1964, he later reached Kansas City through the November 1964 Rule 5 draft. Dickson's busiest year came in 1965, when he appeared in 68 games for the Athletics, fourth-most in the American League, and posted a winning record on a last-place club. He made his only career start in 1966 against the Washington Senators. Across 109 major league games he went 5-3 with three saves. After his playing days he coached at Astoria High School and later worked as a pitching coach for Grosseto in Italy's Serie A1.

Where SGC registers no separate row for a variation state, its slabs of that card are listed under the base state.
