The story on this card
Two years after his brief Detroit debut, Fisher appears on another Tigers Rookie Stars card, 1966 Topps #209 from the set's third series, sharing the card with fellow left-hander John Hiller as Detroit kept stocking its pitching pipeline. By this point Fisher was pitching in the high minors for Knoxville and the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs, a career that would run through the 1967 season without another major league call-up. A hard-throwing University of Michigan product, Fritz Fisher reached Detroit in 1964 and struck out Harmon Killebrew in his only big league outing, then finished out a solid career pitching in the high minors.
1966 Topps #209 puts Hiller on a multi-player Rookie Stars card with fellow Tigers prospect Fritz Fisher, part of the set's third print series; it is a recognized rookie card for Hiller. On the field that year, Hiller made only one appearance for Detroit, working two innings in relief against Washington in April, before pneumonia and pleurisy sent him to the hospital and then down to the Triple-A Syracuse Chiefs for the rest of the season. Toronto-born Tigers reliever who survived a 1971 heart attack to return to the mound, setting a since-broken major league saves record of 38 in 1973 and making the 1974 All-Star team.
