1967 Topps #517 Fred Talbot

About Fred Talbot
By 1967 Talbot was established with the New York Yankees, making 22 starts among his 29 appearances that season. His card comes from the sixth print series of the 1967 Topps set and reports his 1966 split between Kansas City and the Yankees: 11-11 over 30 starts.
Fred Talbot was a right-handed pitcher from Washington, D.C. who reached the majors with the Chicago White Sox in September 1963 and spent parts of eight seasons in the American League. His busiest stretch came with the Kansas City Athletics, where he worked as a full-time starter, before a 1966 trade sent him to the New York Yankees. He remained a Yankees starter and swingman through 1968, then moved on in 1969 to the Yankees, the expansion Seattle Pilots, and the Athletics again before finishing his career with Oakland in 1970. Over his career he posted a 38-56 record with a 4.12 ERA across 195 games. He attended Fairfax High School in Fairfax, Virginia. After baseball he worked in construction before retiring in 1996. He died in Falls Church, Virginia, in 2013 at age 71.
