About this card

This is one of the thirteen combo cards in the 1967 Topps set, each pairing two or more players under a headline - from #1 The Champs to #521 Bird Bombers - rather than giving one man his own card.

The story on this card

Card 463 pairs Cleveland Indians rotation mates Sam McDowell and Sonny Siebert under the title Hill Aces, the Indians' top two strikeout pitchers. Coming off 1966, McDowell had led the American League in strikeouts for a second straight year and made his second All-Star team, while Siebert had thrown a no-hitter against Washington and posted the second of back-to-back 16-8 seasons; together they anchored a Cleveland rotation built around swing-and-miss stuff. The card falls in the sixth print series of the 1967 Topps set. Both men are pictured with the Cleveland Indians, the club both pitched for in 1967.

Sam McDowell, 'Sudden Sam,' was a hard-throwing Cleveland Indians left-hander and six-time All-Star who led the American League in strikeouts five times, capping it with a 20-win, 304-strikeout 1970 that made him The Sporting News AL Pitcher of the Year. Sonny Siebert - right-hander who threw a no-hitter for Cleveland in 1966 and made two All-Star teams over a 140-win career with the Indians, Red Sox, Rangers, Cardinals, Padres, and Athletics.
