1967 Topps #109 Tribe Thumpers - Rocky Colavito / Leon Wagner
On this card: Rocky Colavito, Leon Wagner

About this card
This is one of the thirteen combo cards in the 1967 Topps set, each pairing two or more players under a headline - from #1 The Champs to #521 Bird Bombers - rather than giving one man his own card.
The story on this card
Topps put two Cleveland sluggers on one card, catching them as teammates for what proved to be their final season together in Cleveland. Rocky Colavito opened the year with the Indians before a late-July trade sent him to the Chicago White Sox, closing out a season in which he hit 8 home runs with 50 RBIs. Leon Wagner, known around the league as Daddy Wags for his easygoing style, spent the full season in Cleveland, platooning in the outfield and contributing 15 home runs and 54 RBIs. Both men had been over-30-homer sluggers earlier in the decade, and this card catches them as veteran Indians teammates late in their careers, Colavito on his way out of Cleveland and Wagner still holding down left field.
A nine-time All-Star with one of the great throwing arms of his era, Rocky Colavito tied for the 1959 American League home run crown, homered four straight times in one game that June, and led the league in RBI for Cleveland in 1965. Leon 'Daddy Wags' Wagner spent twelve big-league seasons swinging a feared left-handed bat for five clubs, highlighted by his 1962 All-Star Game MVP award and a .272 career average with 211 home runs built on power, not defense.
