1967 Topps #605 Mike Shannon

About Mike Shannon
Shannon moved to third base in 1967 to make room for newly acquired Roger Maris in right field, and helped the Cardinals win the pennant and the World Series over Boston, homering off Gary Bell in Game Three. Card #605 is a high number from the seventh series, scarcer than the set's earlier-series cards.
Thomas Michael Shannon grew up in St. Louis and starred in three sports at Christian Brothers College High School before signing with his hometown Cardinals in 1958 for a bonus close to fifty thousand dollars. He debuted in the majors in September 1962 and spent nine seasons with St. Louis, breaking through as the everyday right fielder in 1964 before shifting to third base in 1967 to open right field for Roger Maris. A rifle-armed defender with a line-drive bat, he reached three World Series with the Cardinals, winning in 1964 and 1967. A kidney ailment ended his playing career during the 1970 season, but Shannon went on to a decades-long run as the Cardinals' radio broadcaster, becoming one of the most familiar voices in St. Louis sports history.
