The story on this card

This Rookie Stars card, shared with fellow Pirates farmhand Luke Walker, is his rookie card, printed while he was still with the Pittsburgh organization that had signed him in 1960. Days before the Tigers acquired him that April, he was a Pirates prospect coming off Carolina League Player of the Year honors at Kinston; he went on to debut for Detroit on April 11 and hit .261 in 44 games as a rookie backup catcher. Jim Price - backup catcher who spent his entire five-season career, 1967 to 1971, behind Detroit's All-Star Bill Freehan, winning a 1968 World Series ring before becoming a fixture of Tigers radio broadcasts for nearly three decades.

Walker's 1967 Topps card (#123) is a Rookie Stars issue from the set's second print series, pairing him with Detroit Tigers catcher Jim Price on what is Price's rookie card; Walker's first Topps card was 1966 #498. It was issued the year Walker did not appear in a major league game, following his 1966 season with Pittsburgh, when he made 10 appearances, one as a starter, going 0-1 with a 4.50 ERA over 10 innings and seven strikeouts. Left-handed Pirates and Tigers pitcher whose 15-6, 3.04 ERA 1970 season helped Pittsburgh reach the postseason, and who started Game Four of the 1971 World Series championship.
