1968 Topps #241 Felix Millan

About Felix Millan
Playing his first full big-league season under new manager Lum Harris, Millan held down second base for 145 games, hit .309 at midseason before settling at .289, and began drawing notice for his all-around game -- hitting, bunting, base running, and defense -- that soon earned him the nickname the Cat. This card, #241, is part of the third print series.
Felix Millan was a Puerto Rican second baseman who spent 12 major league seasons with the Atlanta Braves and New York Mets, from his 1966 debut through 1977. A slap hitter who choked up far on the bat, he built a reputation as one of the toughest men in the league to strike out, fanning only 22 times in some of his best seasons. He made three All-Star teams and won two Gold Gloves at second base, and he helped both the Braves and the Mets reach the postseason, including the Mets' 1973 National League pennant and World Series run. Teammates and writers called him the Cat for his quiet, sure-handed defense. He finished his career with 1,617 hits and a .279 batting average before playing several more seasons in Japan.
