This is one of the 52 Rookie Stars cards in the 1969 Topps set, each carrying two or three young players under a club or league title. A Rookie Stars card is a rookie card only for the players pictured who had no earlier Topps flagship card - the rookie-card answer on each card names them.

The story on this card

Floyd's only full major-league season: a reserve infielder on Baltimore's 109-win pennant winner, playing second, third and short and batting .202 in 39 games. He fielded the final out of Jim Palmer's August 13 no-hitter, and sat on the World Series roster without appearing. His 1969 Topps #597 is his rookie card, a high number from print series 7 in the multi-player Rookie Stars subset, shared with Larry Burchart and Rollie Fingers for the Orioles, Indians and Athletics. It carries the set's Hall of Fame flag because of Fingers, not Floyd. A good-glove, light-hitting utility infielder for the Orioles and Royals from 1968 to 1974, Floyd went on to a long second career as a minor-league manager and New York Mets coach.

Cleveland's 1968 Rule 5 pick, Burchart stayed on the Indians' roster under manager Alvin Dark and worked all 29 of his big-league games out of the bullpen, going 0-2 with a 4.25 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 42 1/3 innings. A collision with Boston's George Scott while covering first base tore muscles in his shoulder and sent him to the disabled list. His 1969 Topps #597 is his rookie card, a high number from the seventh series and a key card of the set: a three-player Rookie Stars card he shares with the Orioles' Bob Floyd and Oakland's future Hall of Famer Rollie Fingers. An Oklahoma State All-American who won the 1967 Pioneer League clincher for Tommy Lasorda at Ogden, he reached Cleveland as a 1968 Rule 5 pick and pitched 29 games in relief in 1969.

Fingers' only card in this program is 1969 Topps #597, a three-player Rookie Stars card shared with Bob Floyd and Larry Burchart, representing the Orioles, Indians and Athletics. It followed his single September 1968 relief outing in the Athletics' first Oakland season and covers a 1969 rookie year spent as Hank Bauer's swing man, 6-7 with 12 saves in 60 games. Rollie Fingers was Oakland's mustachioed relief ace, anchoring three straight World Series champions from 1972 to 1974 before starring for San Diego and Milwaukee, where his 1981 season brought both the American League Cy Young Award and MVP on the way to Cooperstown in 1992.
