This card exists in two states, one naming him with the Orioles and one still naming the Phillies; graded populations of the two run nearly even.

About Clay Dalrymple
Card #151, a second-series number, is the one that moved Dalrymple from Philadelphia to Baltimore after nine years with the Phillies. He had asked out, telling the club he was doing them no good in front of fans who had turned on him, and on January 20, 1969 they traded him to the Orioles for outfielder Ron Stone. The card exists in two collectible states, one printed with Baltimore and one still printed with Philadelphia, and graded populations of the two run nearly even. The season it reports is 1968: .207 with 3 home runs in 85 games.
Clayton Errol Dalrymple was a left-handed hitting catcher who spent nine seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies and three with the Baltimore Orioles. Philadelphia took him out of the Milwaukee Braves organization in the Rule 5 draft of November 30, 1959, and he reached the majors on April 24, 1960. Valued for his arm and his pitch-calling more than his bat, he twice broke up a no-hit bid in the eighth inning: Juan Marichal's major-league debut in July 1960 and Gaylord Perry's in July 1966. He caught Philadelphia through the 1964 pennant race and its September collapse, and ran off a since-broken league record of 99 consecutive errorless games over 1966 and 1967. He threw out 48.8 percent of the runners who tried to steal on him, 30th on the all-time list. Traded to Baltimore for outfielder Ron Stone on January 20, 1969, he spent three years as a third catcher behind Elrod Hendricks and Andy Etchebarren while the Orioles won three straight American League pennants. He retired after the 1971 season with 710 hits, 55 home runs, 327 runs batted in and a .233 average in 1,079 games, and in 2005 he entered the inaugural class of the Chico Professional Baseball Hall of Fame in his California hometown.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Data as of 2026-09-04. Half grades fold down for both graders (8.5→8); PSA qualified slabs (OC, ST, PD, MC and the like) are not counted. Where a grader registers a variation separately its population is listed under that variation; PSA and SGC slabs whose label names no variation are listed as not designated.

Frequently asked questions
What is the 1969 Topps #151 card?
It is card #151 of the 664-card 1969 Topps Baseball set, picturing Clay Dalrymple of the Baltimore Orioles.
Which team was Clay Dalrymple with in 1969?
Baltimore. Dalrymple was traded from the Phillies to the Orioles on January 20, 1969; Topps printed the card first with him squatting in a Phillies uniform and then replaced it with an Orioles portrait. The Orioles version is the base state here because PSA lists the card under it, even though the Phillies version came first.
Does 1969 Topps #151 have variations?
Yes. Two states are catalogued and tracked individually: 151a - Orioles (The Orioles version: a portrait, the second printing - keyed as the base state on the PSA price guide listing "(Orioles)" although the Phillies version came first; PSA has graded the two in near-equal numbers) and 151b - Phillies (The Phillies version: Dalrymple squatting, the first printing, replaced after his winter trade to Baltimore). Owning any one of them fills the #151 slot; the master set counts each state.
How many cards are in the 1969 Topps Baseball set?
664 cards, tracked as 696 collectible states. Numbers run from 1 to 664 with none skipped and no printed number shared by two cards; 32 cards carry catalogued print variations that the master set counts separately, 23 of them the yellow- and white-letter name pairs of #440-511.
