1969 Topps #141 Bill Dillman

About Bill Dillman
Card #141 puts Dillman in the second series of the 1969 set, an ordinary early number. Topps still pictures him as an Oriole even though he had not thrown a major league pitch since 1967 and never would again for Baltimore. His return came in 1970 with the Montreal Expos: 18 relief outings, a 2-3 record and a 5.28 ERA, capped by a last appearance on July 18.
William Howard Dillman was a right-handed pitcher out of Wake Forest University, born May 25, 1945, in Trenton, New Jersey. Baltimore took him in the sixth round of the 1965 amateur draft, and he reached the Orioles on April 14, 1967, winning the game with five no-hit innings out of the bullpen. He worked as a swingman that rookie year, making 15 starts among 32 appearances and completing two of them, and did not pitch in the majors again until 1970, when the expansion Montreal Expos used him strictly in relief. Listed at 6-foot-2 and 180 pounds, Dillman closed a two-season big league career with a 7-12 record, a 4.54 ERA, 86 strikeouts and three saves in 50 games and 154.2 innings, finishing 16 of them.
