1969 Topps #341 Dave Adlesh

About Dave Adlesh
Adlesh's playing career with the Astros had ended the previous September, and his 1969 Topps card, #341, pictures him with the St. Louis Cardinals organization. It comes from the set's fourth series, and Adlesh never appeared in a game for St. Louis.
David George Adlesh was a catcher born in Long Beach, California, who signed with the Houston Colt .45's as an amateur free agent in 1962 out of St. Anthony High School. The club liked his defense enough to bring him to the majors almost immediately, and he debuted on May 12, 1963. Adlesh spent 1963 through 1966 shuttling between Houston and the minor leagues, then settled in as part of the catching staff in 1967 and 1968. On June 18, 1967, he was behind the plate to catch the first of Don Wilson's two career no-hitters. Adlesh played his entire major league career with the Colt .45's/Astros organization, finishing with a .168 career batting average, one home run, and 43 hits over 106 games. He is not a Hall of Famer. Adlesh died on February 15, 2016, in his hometown of Long Beach after a long battle with cancer.
