About Jim Fairey

Selected from the Dodgers by the Montreal Expos in the October 1968 expansion draft that stocked the National League's new franchises, Fairey appeared in 20 games that season, batting .286 in limited outfield duty. His 1969 Topps card, #117 from the set's second print series, shows him with the Expos, the club he would play for as a semi-regular outfielder over the next several seasons.

James Burke Fairey, born September 22, 1944 in Orangeburg, South Carolina, was a left-handed hitting and throwing outfielder who reached the majors with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1968. After two seasons with the Dodgers organization he became a regular part-time outfielder for the expansion Montreal Expos from 1969 through 1972, appearing in as many as 92 games in a season. He closed out his six-year big league career back with the Dodgers in 1973. Over 399 career games Fairey batted .235 with 7 home runs, 75 RBI, 86 runs scored and 6 stolen bases. He was never selected to an All-Star team, won no major awards, and did not play in a postseason game.
