The story on this card
Over 11 innings for the 1969 Indians, Boyd gave up eight hits and 14 walks. He struck out nine and finished 0-2 with a 9.00 ERA. Topps put him on #7 in the first series of its 1970 set, a Rookie Stars card he shares with Russ Nagelson, also printed with the Indians. It is a rookie card for both men. Right-hander from Pasadena, California, selected by the Cleveland Indians in the fourth round of the 1965 draft. He debuted as a starter against Kansas City on August 1, 1969, and pitched in the high minors through 1972 before retiring after eight professional seasons.
Nagelson split 1970 between the Indians and the Tigers, collecting nine hits in 56 at-bats over 45 games. His rookie card, 1970 Topps #7, is a first-series Rookie Stars card shared with fellow Indians prospect Gary Boyd, whose rookie card it also is. Russ Nagelson, an Ohio State product from Cincinnati, was a left-handed-hitting outfielder and pinch hitter who played 62 games for Cleveland and Detroit from 1968 to 1970, finishing with 16 hits, one home run and a .211 average.
