About Steve Hargan
After making 23 starts in 1969, Hargan began 1970 in Cleveland's bullpen and later pitched for Triple-A Wichita under Ken Aspromonte. Recalled on July 16, he threw a two-hit complete game to beat Kansas City 4-1 on July 18. His second-series 1970 Topps #136 listed the Indians.
Steve Hargan pitched 12 major league seasons for Cleveland, Texas, Toronto and Atlanta, finishing with an 87-107 record and a 3.92 ERA. Cleveland signed the right-hander after a tryout at Municipal Stadium in 1961. In the minors, Hal Newhouser taught him a slider at Dubuque, and Johnny Lipon managed him at Charleston and Portland. Hargan made his major league debut in August 1965. He spent the entire 1973 season in Triple-A before returning to the majors with Texas. After his last major league season, he pitched for Toledo and Columbus in 1978. Reunited with Lipon at Columbus, he added a forkball and worked 170 innings before retiring.
