1970 Topps #89 Juan Rios

About Juan Rios
Topps gave Rios a solo card, #89, with the Royals. It followed the franchise's first season, in which Kansas City finished fourth in the newly established American League West with 69 wins and 93 losses. Rios had played 46 games at second base and 32 at shortstop for that club.
Juan Rios was a Puerto Rican infielder from Mayaguez who reached the majors with the Kansas City Royals in their inaugural 1969 season. Signed originally by the New York Mets organization, he made his big league debut in April 1969 and spent the year with Kansas City. Over 87 games that season he batted .224 with 44 hits. He added one home run, 5 RBI and 20 runs scored. His final major league appearance came that October, closing out a single-season career. Rios was born on July 14, 1942, and died on August 28, 1995, both in his hometown of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. Listed at 6-foot-3 and 185 pounds, he threw and batted right-handed.
