1971 Topps #21 Dan McGinn

About Dan McGinn
McGinn made 19 starts among his 52 games for the 1970 Expos. He went 7-10 with a 5.44 ERA, up from 3.94 the year before. The first of those starts was a 3-0 shutout at Shea Stadium that ended Tom Seaver's 16-game winning streak. Winter ball and instructional league work left his arm tired. His #21 in the first series of 1971 Topps shows him with the Expos.
Dan McGinn was a left-handed pitcher from Omaha, Nebraska, who played quarterback and several other positions at Notre Dame while also pitching for the baseball team. Cincinnati drafted him in the secondary phase of the 1966 January draft, and he reached the majors with the Reds in 1968 after converting from starter to reliever. Left unprotected in the expansion draft, McGinn was selected by the Montreal Expos. On Opening Day 1969 he became the first relief pitcher to take the mound for the new franchise and hit the first home run in Expos history, off Tom Seaver. He spent three seasons with Montreal before a 1972 trade sent him to the Chicago Cubs, his final major league stop. Across five seasons with the Reds, Expos and Cubs he went 15-30 with a 5.11 ERA in 210 games. He later spent 24 years in sales and marketing for AT&T in Omaha.
