He hit four home runs in four at-bats in the 1962 Hawaii state tournament final, then signed with Baltimore and came to Chicago in the six-man Luis Aparicio trade of November 29, 1967. He hit .314 for Tucson in 1969, fourth in the Pacific Coast League. He hit a career-high 20 home runs for the Hawaii Islanders, where his 18-season pro career ended in 1980. He played six summers in the Mexican League from 1974, batting .306 and going 26-25 with a 3.33 ERA after taking up pitching in 1976.
