About this card

The story on this card
Humphrey caught 65 of his 69 games for the Expos in 1972, the first of his two seasons as a starter. He batted .186 with 1 home run and 9 RBI. His rookie card is #489, a fourth-series Rookie Stars card that pairs him with Montreal teammate Keith Lampard. Terry Humphrey was a 6-foot-3 right-handed catcher who played 415 games for the Expos, Tigers and Angels between 1971 and 1979. His best year came with California in 1977, when he caught 123 games and drove in 34 runs.
Montreal claimed Lampard in the November 1971 major-league draft for $25,000 while he was playing winter ball in Venezuela. In 1972 spring training he and Tony Gonzalez competed for an Expos outfield job and neither won it. Lampard was 3 for 28 at one point, and because draft rules barred a demotion, Montreal sent him back to Houston at half the price. Card #489 is a fourth-series Expos Rookie Stars card shared with Terry Humphrey, and the third Rookie Stars card Lampard appeared on in three years. Keith Lampard, an English-born outfielder raised in Portland, Oregon, played 62 games for the Houston Astros in 1969 and 1970. His only major-league home run, a two-run pinch-hit shot off Wayne Granger on September 19, 1969, ended a game at the Astrodome.
